Gateway capital to treasures of Namibia

Windhoek is the only proclaimed city in Namibia and acts as the administrative and legislative centre and a gateway to the country. Chances are, those visiting Namibia will begin and end their journey in Windhoek. Apart from being the capital city, it is home to an array of tourist attractions and a vast plethora of accommodation options.

Windhoek is home to a melting pot of cultures and travellers can expect to see Herero, Owambo, Damara, Kavango, Buster, Nama, San, Afrikaans, and German citizens bustling about this unique city made up of typically German architecture and African and German street names. Although the city cannot compete with some of Namibia’s star attractions such as Etosha National Park and the dunes at Sossusvlei, the charm and diversity of this tiny capital will be sure to enchant those passing through. The town itself offers all amenities and luxuries expected of a capital city, whilst still retaining that African atmosphere.

A short drive out of town will bring travellers face-to-face with Africa’s savannah, home to numerous wildlife reserves and a vast array of activities and accommodation options. Those wanting to travel in luxury or those in search of an authentic backpacking experience will be able to find it all. Hosea Kutako International Airport, 45km from the city, is the main international airport and services flights from Cape Town, Johannesburg, Frankfurt and a host of other destinations.
