The unassuming town of Hoedspruit is located halfway between both attractions, making it the ideal base and entry point from which to explore the region.
Visitors can take daytrips into the nearby park and reserves such as Timbavati Game Reserve and Manyeleti Game Reservewhich are a stone’s throw away. The impressive Blyde River Canyon and its nearby waterfalls and viewpoints along with the game-rich landscapes of Kruger are both approximately an hour away; while the land between the two is known as the Kruger-to-Canyons Biosphere. Visitors can go hot-air ballooning, hiking, and white-water rafting, or enjoy nearby spas, day safaris, and the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre.
Hoedspruit’s Eastgate Airport has long operated as the doorway to Kruger and with daily flights arriving from Johannesburg and Cape Town it isn’t hard to see why. With an array of airstrips throughout Kruger and its Kruger Private Concessions areas and reserves, most are easily connected with flights into Eastgate. The Blyde River Canyon and Kruger National Park are both approximately one hour away from Hoedspruit.
