Mahe Island

Sights and Sounds of Mahe Island

Mahé is the largest and most important of the 115 islands that make up the Seychelles. Most of the country’s 84,000 inhabitants reside here and it is clearly the commercial and political centre. The capital Victoria is a charming town on the east coast and you should take some time to explore the bustling markets and sample the exotic fruits and spices. Most travellers tend to pass through here on their way in and out of the country, but the beaches are beautiful and it is worth taking a few days here to sample the sights and sounds of the Seychelles.

Mahe Island does provide the greatest variety of accommodation in the Seychelles and there is something to suit your budget and every need. There are five-star resorts which provide all creature comforts and facilities and cater well for families. Those wishing to escape the bustle will opt for more secluded and rustic retreats on the beach.

The capital city of Victoria and the beach resorts on the island are easily accesible by car.
