Enquire nowWhether by chance or ingenuity, Namibia’s capital is located in the very heart of the country. Windhoek, with its German influence and cosmopolitan nature, is the very gateway to all that the country has to offer – particularly Central Namibia. Venturing out of the capital, visitors will find themselves on the doorstep of the awe-inspiring northern Kalahari, the Waterberg Plateau and the wonders of the surrounding Erongo region.
A large part of central Namibia is characterised by varying wilderness areas, from the small red dunes and grasslands of the Kalahari to the spectacular Waterberg Plateau and its surrounding reserves. The country’s adventure capital is undoubtedly Swakopmund – the ideal place for visitors to engage in various hair-raising activities - while the volcanic Erongo Mountains and its plethora of wildlife are sure to entertain avid nature-lovers.
The list of activities in this region is never-ending. Swakopmund and its West Coast Recreational Area take centre stage, offering quad biking, sand boarding, skydiving, beach angling and dune-carting. The Erongo Mountains offer phenomenal game viewing and rock art relics while the Waterberg Plateau promises extensive hiking trails. The northern Kalahari, while also offering game viewing and spectacular scenery, is more popular for its San Bushmen interaction and activities.
