Anja has a habit of starting your trip before you’ve even finished explaining it. She’ll already be sketching possibilities in her head, then the real work begins: fine-tuning, adjusting and shaping the details until the journey feels unmistakably yours. After three decades in travel, including two decades with Rhino Africa, she’s learned there’s no universal “insider secret”. Different guest, different trip, different advice. Originally from Germany, Anja visited South Africa twice and fell for rather more than the scenery. The wildlife, nature and people won her over, as did the man who became her husband. Cape Town is now home, along with their two daughters, two dogs and an African Grey parrot. Her husband is a tour guide, so travel-talk is unlikely to stop when the working day does. On safari, she’s an expert spotter with a particular soft spot for fish eagles. And after countless game drives? Asked for her most memorable wildlife sighting, Anja’s answer is simply: “far too many to mention.” Fair enough.
