Alex knows what it’s like to fall for Africa from the outside in. Born in Germany, she first came to South Africa on a four-week self-drive in 2002, fell hard for the place and eventually swapped visitor status for a life in Cape Town. More than 30 years in travel later, that original curiosity has turned into serious first-hand knowledge across Southern and East Africa, as well as the Indian Ocean. She still drives the Garden Route every year, which probably tells you something about Alex: she likes to know a place properly. She’s practical, active and happiest when there’s something to explore, whether that means hiking, canoeing, quad biking or reading tracks in the bush. Krav Maga also happens to be in the mix, just to keep things interesting. With her guests, she brings that same grounded approach. Ask the questions, work through the options, and keep narrowing things down until the trip feels right. Alex has seen enough of Africa to know there’s no prize for picking the “best” lodge on paper.
