Surreal desert experience at a remote Namibian camp

Volcanic rock formations tower out of the endless undulating dunes of the Namib Desert. Breaking this ceaseless expanse is the Kunene River, along with lush riverine forests puncturing the desert landscape. In the middle of this surreal setting, on the border of Angola, stands the intimate and peaceful Serra Cafema, one of Namibia’s most remote camps.

Undoubtedly the highlight of the camp is the quad bike rides over the rising dunes in search of gemsbok and the camouflaged Rüppell’s korhaan. A visit to the nearby Himba community gives insight into the life of these semi-nomadic people as they survive in the harsh desert landscape. Enjoy a relaxing boat cruise to the Angolan side of the river for a sundowner.

Raised on wooden decks, the camp’s eight luxurious tents are constructed from canvas and thatch to create a spacious and cool environment. Both the Standard Tents and the Family Tent feature large glass sliding doors which can be opened onto the desert landscape. The sunken lounge, bar, dining areas and plunge pool in the main area all feature views over the Kunene River.
