Situated in an eucalyptus plantation a few kilometres outside the entrance to the Périnet National Park, Vakona Forest Lodge is undoubtably one of the most comfortable lodges in the area. There are 24 bungalows scattered quite far apart throughout the grounds, the amount of space means you will never feel crowded and should you want privacy you can have it. The rooms themselves are basic and clean with en-suite bathrooms, electric heaters, a mini bar and safe. They aren't exactly luxury though and you may find yourself spending most of your time in the main areas. Here you will find a reading lounge and a restaurant. The food served up at the restaurant is surprisingly good, a mixture of cuisines are dished up and there is a great roaring log fireplace.
Various activities are on offer for guests including horse riding, squash, mountain biking and the use of the hotel's swimming pool. The lodge is the perfect base to explore the nearby Andasibe National Park. The Park is known for its variety of diurnal and nocturnal species, and is probably best known for the Indri Indri lemur – the largest member of the lemur family. Near the lodge itself is a small island on which a number of rehabilitated lemurs reside and is the perfect place to get up close and personal with these interesting animals.
