What to Expect

Many East Africa safaris choose between Kenya and Tanzania. This one makes the case for both. From Kenya’s energetic capital, Nairobi, head into the Maasai Mara, where open grassland makes for excellent big-cat viewing and, if your timing is right, The Great Migration adds a few million wildebeest to the excitement. Then it's across the border into Tanzania's Serengeti, a wilderness roughly ten times the size of the Mara. Here, lions claim granite kopjes as their personal lookout posts and all that space gives you room to follow the morning’s best sightings.

Next, descend 600 metres into the Ngorongoro Crater, a natural amphitheatre, where an astonishing variety of animals share the ancient volcanic floor. Your final stop is Tarangire National Park, with its enormous baobabs and large elephant herds making a fitting farewell. Four extraordinary safari destinations, two countries and eight days of wildlife watching. Even seasoned safari-goers might find themselves feeling like first-timers again.
