North Island Lodge is a glittering gem in the diamond necklace of the Seychelles. It is located on the granitic North Island, 32km north-west of Mahe Island, and 5km north of Silhouette Island. And with no other hotels or resorts in sight, you really do have the entire island to yourself. Stroll along one of four beautiful beaches, enjoy a range of water sports and activities (most are free of charge!) or take a boat trip to any of the nearby islands such as Praslin. The resort is virtually all handcrafted, making use mainly of natural materials, ensuring it blends seamlessly into its environment. There is a lounge, dining room and library, a sparkling swimming pool to wash off the salt and a bar which witnesses spectacular sunsets each evening. Work up a sweat in the gym or spoil yourself with a treatment or massage at the Spa.
Accommodation consists of 11 luxury villas, each located on the eastern beach. Each villa is massive at 5000 square feet, and has more facilities than your average guesthouse! Lounge around by the private plunge pool and sala, catch a tan on the sundeck and appreciate the wonderful views from your balcony. The large sliding windows mean the azure Indian Ocean is always in view, even when you are curled up on a couch in the lounge. The air-conditioned bedroom is gargantuan with a well-appointed en-suite bathroom. An additional room can be used as a study or bedroom, depending on your preference. And if you want to self-cater there is a mini-kitchen, though the food at the resort is sure to keep you coming back for more! Each villa is discreetly positioned to ensure your privacy, and if you do want to explore the island, there are mountain bicycles and an island buggy at your disposal.
Arguably the world's best beach destination, it is hardly surprising that North Island Lodge was voted the best honeymoon resort by Conde Nast Traveller in 2006. With a series of four breathtaking beaches, a collection of colourful coral reefs, mountain outcrops and indigenous fauna and flora, this is paradise in a nutshell! And this is all perfectly complemented by the luxury villas, which come with a private plunge pool and sala and open directly onto the beach. The Spa offers an array of treatments, while most water sports, such as scuba diving, are free of charge. Explore the island on your own dune buggy and at the end of another hard day, savour a cocktail at the sunset bar!
