Perched on a dune within a private reserve, !Xaus Lodge overlooks the distinctively heart-shaped saltpan after which the humble lodge is named. "!Xaus" means "heart" in the Nama language and speaks not only to the terrain but to the passion with which the two bushmen communities run the eco-friendly lodge.
Drive out over the saltpan, white crystals cracking beneath the vehicle’s tyres, or discover the Kalahari’s nocturnal creatures on an after-dinner drive. An early start with the bushman trackers and guides will lead you through the red dunes, where they will point out the desert’s fascinating flora and fauna. This is followed by a walk to the cultural village to see the bushman crafters’ work. A clear sky without any light pollution makes for fantastic stargazing.
The lodge offers four-star accommodation in 12 individual Chalets, each with a private deck overlooking the saltpan and the freshwater waterhole. The main area boasts a comfortable lounge with a roaring fireplace and a collection of books. Meals are served in the boma around a large fire pit.
