Shinde

For a lush palm island safari in northern Okavango Delta, look no further than Shinde Camp. This is one of the Delta’s original safari camps – rebuilt, yet still carrying the spirit of the early days of Botswana safaris. Positioned within the exclusive Shinde Concession, the camp’s combination of permanent waterways and dry-land habitats makes a wide range of safari activities possible year-round. 

Safari excursions transport you from one island and floodplain to another, as leopards, elephants and antelopes wander the landscape. The more adventurous will enjoy a walking safari, while the Okavango’s waterways offer a different perspective entirely. Drifting silently through papyrus channels on a mokoro, you might spot jacanas walking across floating lilies and kingfishers flashing across the water. Motorboats reach deeper lagoons that draw birdlife and wildlife to their banks. There’s a good chance you’ll come face-to-face with a pod of hippos. Fishing is available for much of the year, thanks to an abundance of bream, tilapia and tigerfish. And afterwards, when you’re back at camp, recline beside the swimming pool or on your deck and watch wildlife moving along the lagoon’s edge.

EcoTourism Certified, the camp is built in a distinctive treehouse style among ebony and mangosteen trees. Raised decks feature lounges, dining areas and a fire deck, with constant views over the lagoon. The tented suites are spacious and well-positioned for privacy, each with a touch of historical charm and its own large indoor bathroom and outdoor shower. Ceiling fans, solar power and thoughtful touches keep the experience comfortable without losing the feel of a traditional Delta camp.
