Chobe Chilwero Lodge, an A&K Sanctuary

Chobe Chilwero Lodge, an A&K Sanctuary, rises from a hilltop in the Kasane Forest Reserve, with the Chobe River, floodplains, islands and distant Namibian horizon spread out below. Its name means “high view” and that perspective gives the lodge its character: a front-row outlook over one of Botswana’s great wildlife corridors while still being held in the comfort of shaded gardens, cool terraces and birdsong. Chobe National Park is famous for elephants in extraordinary numbers, and from this elevated perch, the river below becomes a wildlife-rich scene of hippos, crocodiles, buffalo, waterbirds and herds of antelope moving down to drink. 

In the national park, open-vehicle game drives follow tracks through woodland, mopane, floodplain and riverbank, where elephant herds gather, sable and roan antelope move through the bush and patient guiding may bring lion, hyena, leopard, cheetah or wild dog into focus. On the river, boat cruises take you closer to the water’s edge, where crocodiles lie languidly on the banks, hippos grunt in the shallows and buffalo cross to Sedudu Island. Back at the lodge, sundowners, lantern-lit dinners, wood-fired pizzas, spa time and poolside hours ease you into the evening, with the Chobe River always in view from the terrace. Families are especially well looked after, with fenced lodge grounds, shortened game drives and nature-based activities designed for younger guests. 

The lodge’s thatched suites are tucked among leafy gardens, with options for families, honeymooners and couples craving a little more privacy. Inside, each space feels calm, airy and indulgently comfortable, with a super king-sized bed, mosquito-net canopy, air-conditioning, private deck, en-suite bathroom, double vanity, rain shower and freestanding bathtub made for slow post-safari soaks. Family options include an adjoining twin bedroom, while the secluded pool hideaway adds a private garden, large deck, plunge pool, fire pit and shaded daybed area for lazy afternoons between game drives.
