In a secluded corner of the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, Kambaku Safari Lodge offers a warm, personal safari escape. With only a handful of chalets, the lodge feels intimate and relaxed, shaped by the Tsonga meaning of its name: “welcome”. That feeling carries through the stay, from watering hole views to the easy sense that safari here is best shared with family and friends.

Morning and afternoon game drives take you into Big 5 country, with experienced guides and trackers reading the bush for lions, African wild dogs, hippo, hyena, elephant, leopard, buffalo and rich birdlife. Bush walks bring the smaller details closer, while birdwatching, photography safaris and sleep-outs in the hide add more ways to experience the Timbavati. Between activities, relax by the swimming pool and deck overlooking the watering hole, browse the library, gym, enjoy the bar or gather in the boma for dinners beside the bonfire. Children* are well entertained too, with the Kambaku Kubs programme, a dedicated play area and the chance to earn a Junior Ranger certificate before heading home.

The thatched suites offer a comfortable retreat after a day in the bush, combining classic safari style with thoughtful touches. Each features a four-poster bed draped in mosquito nets, overhead fans, an en-suite bathroom with bath and shower, and a private veranda overlooking the gardens or watering hole. Guests travelling together can opt for one of the spacious family suites, designed to provide extra room and comfort for families or small groups. The lodge also runs entirely on solar power, ensuring a lighter footprint to its welcoming bushveld character.
