Governors' Camp enjoys an unrivalled location tucked away in a riverine forest along the banks of the Mara River, in the heart of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Once exclusive to colonial governors, the site was chosen for its extraordinary setting and superb wildlife viewing – and that remains true today. It's perfect for couples, friends and families with children, looking for an immersive traditional safari.
The Maasai Mara's iconic open plains and seasonal drama – including the Great Migration – make this camp one of the most rewarding game-viewing areas in the reserve. Governors' Camp offers up to three guided game drives daily in open-sided 4x4 vehicles with experienced guides, while balloon safaris and visits to local Maasai communities are easily arranged. Picnics and packed meals are available if you wish to spend extended time out on game drives, whether for a full day or just a few extra hours. Bush meals can also be enjoyed at a scenic spot – ideal for a special occasion or simply soaking in the wilderness.
Each of the spacious tents, whether classic safari tents or specially designed family ones – features an en-suite bathroom with hot and cold running water, flush toilets and a private verandah where you'll find yourself in awe of the surroundings. The classic tents look out over the Mara River, while the family ones offer expansive views of the open plains. Having been awarded a Gold Eco-Rating by Ecotourism Kenya, Governors' Camp's environmentally-conscious operations and support for local communities demonstrate its care for both the environment and the people who call it home.
