Etosha Oberland Lodge lies just 10 km southeast of Anderson Gate, on a 5,000-hectare private reserve bordering Etosha National Park. Surrounded by old mopane trees and open savannah, it offers a more private, slow-paced alternative to staying inside the national park itself, while keeping safari access easy. The setting is wild but gently composed, with a sense of space that suits travellers looking for comfort, good design and a quieter base near one of Namibia’s best-known wildlife regions.
Game viewing begins early, but the experience doesn’t end when you return to the lodge. Between drives, you can stretch out beside the infinity pool, settle onto the sundeck or watch wildlife gather at the nearby waterholes. Meals add their own sense of occasion – perhaps dinner served on the deck overlooking the water or a final glass of wine by the fire. Guided bush walks offer a different lens on the landscape, drawing your focus to flora, birdlife, tracks and the traditional medicinal uses of indigenous plants – details often missed from a vehicle.
The spacious chalets are carefully positioned for privacy, with no sense of neighbouring rooms and wide views across the savannah. Each has 75m² of indoor space, a private terrace, natural-toned furnishings, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, a minibar, tea and coffee station and an outdoor shower tucked into the trees. Children are welcome, although those under 12 require a private vehicle for activities. The whole lodge runs on solar power, adding a lighter touch to a stay rooted in comfort and seclusion.
