Echo Base Camp

Echo Base Camp stands directly on a glacier in Queen Maud Land, beneath the serrated Drygalski Mountains. Crevasse fields, wind-scoured ridges and and isolated rocky peaks known as nunataks rise through ice beyond camp, creating a striking base for exploring the continent’s interior. Curved pods, metallic finishes and panoramic glass draw on twentieth-century space exploration, while the camp remains fully demountable, with no permanent foundations left in the landscape.

Explore straight from camp. Follow your guides onto the glacier for ice climbing, abseiling, fat biking or cross-country skiing. You can explore ice caves, climb exposed rock and hike onto nunataks, with each route adapted to weather, ice conditions and your confidence level. Depending on your programme, flights may continue to Emperor penguins at Atka Bay, blue ice formations or the Geographic South Pole. A professional photographer records the expedition, leaving you free to concentrate on the experience. Back inside, book a massage, join yoga or meditation, or move between the sauna and ice plunge. Later, gather for cocktails, freshly prepared dinners and Cape wines overlooking the glacier.

Inside your heated pod, Antarctica begins at the edge of the bed. Floor-to-ceiling one-way glass provides you with uninterrupted views while preserving your privacy. Make coffee, settle at the writing desk or watch the light move across the glacier. Retro-futurist details and photographs taken from the International Space Station bring character to the interior, while electric blankets, hot-water bottles and fresh running water add comfort. After an expedition, step into your private shower, warm up and keep the Antarctic landscape in view.
