Saldanha Destinations

On the edge of a bay of epic proportions

On the northernmost corner of a bay of epic proportions – the largest and deepest natural port in South Africa – stands the harbour town of Saldanha, a town defined as much by its opportunities for fun as its industry. From an unspoilt coastline dense with seabirds, yachting enthusiasts take off into the waters which they share with imposing fishing vessels.

Whether lying on the sun-drenched deck of a yacht or taking off into the water while kitesurfing, visitors can explore the waters surrounding the five islands housed in the bay and marvel at their surroundings. The abundant sea life housed in the waters can be sampled by whale watching, on deep-sea fishing and diving excursions, or simply by observing the locals haul in the catch of the day.

From the vantage point of a hill overlooking the town, on a clear day visitors can catch a glimpse of Table Mountain which stands like a hazy mirage 152km away in the city of Cape Town. Closer to town, but no less spectacular a sight, the West Coast Fossil Park features an ongoing excavation on one of the world’s richest fossil sites. Along with neighbouring Langebaan, Saldanha is host to an exciting array of accommodation suited to every taste.
