Kulala Desert Lodge places you on the edge of one of Namibia’s most remarkable landscapes, with an exclusive-use gate offering early access to Sossusvlei. Set within the stark beauty of the Namib Desert, this is a stay shaped by vast scenery, shifting light and the surprising life that takes hold in arid ground. The atmosphere is relaxed and sociable, making it a strong fit for families, small groups and self-drive travellers looking for a comfortable base.
Your time here revolves around the detail of the desert. You can set out for Sossusvlei’s towering red dunes, walk through the ancient camelthorn setting of Deadvlei and explore Sesriem Canyon, where the rock tells a much longer story. Guided nature drives and walks reveal the quieter side of the landscape, from desert-adapted wildlife to the stillness that settles over the plains. Back at the lodge, long lunches, sundowners and dinners under the stars complete your day, while hot air ballooning (at additional charge) and electric fatbikes add another perspective for those wanting something extra.
The lodge’s canvas-and-thatch rooms keep things comfortable and cosy, with a design that suits the setting. Each room has a flat rooftop made for sleep-outs beneath the clear, starry desert sky, turning the night itself into part of the stay. Shared spaces include a wraparound veranda, pool and central living area overlooking the waterhole.
