The Namib Desert Lodge lets you experience the true beauty of Namibia's landscape, with the ancient Namib Desert's pale green shrubs and trees on the banks of dry rivers and the backdrop of the reddish mountains of sand.
Situated in the Sossusvlei area, 60 km north of Sesriem, the Namib Desert Lodge features a main building and chalets spread out along the foot of fossilised dunes. There are 60 en-suite rooms as well as a restaurant and bar and an inviting terrace with magnificent views of the surroundings. Escape the heat by taking cooling dips in the two swimming pools. Look out for the oryx antelope and springbok that make frequent appearances.
Should you like to camp, there are shaded camping sites under acacia trees at the bank of a dry riverbed.
Gondwana Namib Park
In the Namib Park (100 km²) ‘fossilised’ dunes of the ancient Namib meet the active dunes of the young Namib. To the west you can witness a sea of dunes that extends as far as the eye can see; to the east vast plains stretch to distant mountains. Watch solitary gemsbok, springbok and ostrich on the plains. Large bare patches in the grass stand like mystical fairy circles. You can take a drive to see the Sesriem Canyon and near-by Sossusvlei which boasts the highest dunes on earth.
