Sable Alley

Beside a lily-covered lagoon in the Khwai Private Reserve, you’ll find Sable Alley, where hippos grunt below camp and elephants and buffalo often come down to drink. The reserve covers 200,000 hectares of private wilderness north-east of the Okavango Delta, bordering Moremi Game Reserve and Chobe National Park. It's a joint venture with the local community, so your stay supports conservation and Khwai Village projects while giving you access to one of Botswana’s most rewarding private safari areas.

The wildlife feels wonderfully close here, even before you leave camp. Watch the lagoon from the bar, fire pit, lounge or pool deck, then head into Khwai’s mix of floodplains, riverine forest, acacia woodland, mopane and winding channels. Game drives reveal lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog, elephant, buffalo, sable, roan and rich birdlife, with night drives adding the after-dark pulse of the bush. Depending on water levels and season, you can also explore by mokoro, boat or guided walk, join the KPR Predator Patrol before dawn, try fishing, visit Khwai Village, book a helicopter flight or sleep out beneath the stars at Skybeds. Between activities, enjoy freshly prepared meals, from relaxed breakfasts to atmospheric dinners under the stars.
