Mpala Jena

Only 19 kilometres upstream from Victoria Falls, Mpala Jena Camp occupies a broad, sandy stretch of Zambezi riverbank within a protected 56,000-hectare wilderness, famous for consistent wildlife sightings. Think white sand underfoot, tall trees casting shifting shade and the river flowing steadily past. Access to Victoria Falls is straightforward, allowing you to combine time at the Falls with days spent encountering wildlife – the Zambezi River a constant presence. 

Game drives explore Zambezi National Park in custom-built Land Cruisers, complete with snacks and drinks. Known for strong elephant and buffalo sightings from June to October and more lions per km² here than anywhere else in Zimbabwe. Leopard, sable, wildebeest, zebra and giraffe are all present, alongside around 400 bird species. On the river, flat-bottomed motorboats and a traditional Zanzibari dhow let you drift past hippos and crocodiles or cast a line during tiger fishing season from June to December. Thrilling visits to Victoria Falls and other town-based activities can be arranged with ease, including thrilling seasonal white-water rafting.

Under flowing canvas at the main camp, the river-facing suites and family suites are each air-conditioned and positioned for water views. Indoor bathrooms include double vanities and indoor showers, while outdoor areas feature freestanding bathtubs and open-air showers overlooking the river.
