Meet Sian Bester

Today we chat to travel consultant, Sian, our in-house Lara Croft of the wilderness. She has organised hundreds of exciting safaris for guests from all over the world. Find out more about her in our Meet The Team section online.

1. What do you love most about your job? Rhino Africa puts in a great amount of effort when it comes to product knowledge. A great part of my job is being able to visit all these wonderful destinations and experience first-hand what our clients are going to enjoy. This certainly helps when dealing directly with your client and matching destinations and lodges perfectly with their exact needs or wants.

2. What are your top 3 destinations you have visited in Africa? There are endless options on offer throughout Southern and East Africa. It just depends on how adventurous you wish to be. My top destinations are certainly South Luangwa in Zambia, Botswana and Namibia.

3. What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever eaten on your travels? I am a huge foodie and can never say no to food. I’m unfortunately not the most adventurous type but I was more than happy to try crocodile at The Boma in Victoria Falls. When in Rome…

4. What is your most memorable safari moment? A walking safari in South Luangwa, which in my opinion is the finest way to experience Africa’s pristine wilderness first-hand.

5. What is the one thing you have to take with you on every trip? Sun block (30+) – it gets really hot out there at times. Lip balm is a must too.

6. Where in the World do you still want to travel to? Zambia really has a lot to offer and I certainly would love to explore more of it. Other areas on my list include Madagascar, Seychelles, Maldives, Thailand and Vietnam.

7. If you could go on a dream safari with anyone at all, who would it be? (Fictional/Real; Dead/Alive) David Attenborough.

8. What is your favourite (city/beach) hotel that you always recommend to clients travelling to Africa? I really love Pemba, Mozambique – where possible I always try to recommend Ibo Island Lodge in the Quirimbas Archipelago for its rich culture and slightly different beach experience. There are some great islands in the Quirimbas Archipelago, which is home to pristine beaches. City hotel… a great favourite of mine is MannaBay.

9. What are your top 3 favourite safari lodges that you always recommend to clients travelling to Africa? Puku Ridge in South LuangwaSavute Safari Lodge in Botswana and Serra Cafema in Namibia.

1o. Where is your favourite place to eat in Cape Town? Without a doubt El Burro – finest Mexican in town.

  • Hi Michael. We understand that you spoke with one of our senior consultants (Nomveliso) and that you were at the very beginning stages of the planning process. There was obviously a misunderstanding as we didn’t realise that you wanted quotes. Apologies for that. Nomveliso will be in touch again to help you with whatever you need!
