Uganda is a charming country with an amazing variety of landscapes and experiences to offer. It is becoming increasingly popular among tourists though it doesn't attract as many travellers as neighbouring
Kenya or
Tanzania. It is probably Africa's best-kept secret, along with
Rwanda, and we hope it stays that way.

Uganda is a charming country located in the heart of Africa. It forms an
East African Community with
Kenya and
Tanzania, though it is pretty much in the heart of the continent bordering the
Democratic Republic of Congo to the west,
Rwanda to the south and Sudan in the north. It is relatively small by African standards so travelling distances are not great and it is possible to get from one side of the country to another in a day. Having said that it is about the size of Great Britain and supports a diversity of habitats, from snowcapped mountains to lakes, winding rivers, forested reserves and jungles.
Most travellers come to see the amazing mountain gorillas in the
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park which hosts half the world's remaining population. It is also possible to go gorilla tracking in the
Mgahinga National Park or across the border in Rwanda's famous
Volcanoes National Park. And you can meet more relatives - enjoy a guided tour and see chimpanzees in the
Kibale Forest.
See our Gorilla and Chimp Tracking Section for more information! But Uganda is not only about primates.
Kampala is a charming city, probably the safest and friendliest capital in Africa with a vibrant atmosphere and buzzing nightlife. Enjoy an East African safari and river cruise in the
Queen Elizabeth National Park, home to an array of wildlife on water and land. The
Rwenzoris - 'Mountains of the Moon' - in the west are simply spectacular as is
Mount Elgon in the east. See the source of
the Nile in Jinja, go white water rafting down the world's longest river and relax on the shores of
Lake Victoria.
