Ngala means “lion” in Shangaan, a fitting name for an area known for powerful prides and the rare possibility of seeing white lions in the wild. The lodge itself has the warmth of a classic safari home, with thatched spaces, shaded verandas and plenty to do between outings.

Your safari here is defined by the freedom of the concession. Twice-daily game drives set out in open vehicles, with off-road driving possible when conditions allow, while guided nature walks, conservation talks and Wild Impact community visits offer a deeper understanding of Ngala’s wider purpose. For something more specialised, private safaris, the Ngala Treehouse, Shangaan village visits, scenic helicopter flights and rhino conservation experiences can be arranged. Back at the lodge, swim in the rim-flow pool overlooking a waterhole, gather at the bush bar, browse the library, wine cellar or safari shop, work out in the gym, book a massage or enjoy boma dinners beneath the stars.

Stays here feel relaxed and comfortable, with a choice of thatched classic cottages, interleading family cottages and a sole-use family villa. The classic and family cottages carry a nostalgic safari character, opening onto private verandas with comfortable lounge chairs for quiet post-drive pauses.
