Your gateway to a self-drive, safari, and seaside vacation

Known as the Citrus City or simply as Nelspruit, the capital of Mpumalanga is a springboard from which travellers can begin to explore the region. Whether visitors are on their way to South Africa’s most prolific safari destination, the Kruger National Park; self-driving along the picturesque Panorama Route; or making their way to neighbouring Mozambique – chances are a stopover through Nelspruit is on the cards.

What was once grazing ground for cattle owned by three brothers in the area and later a seat of government during the Anglo-Boer War, is now a thriving city that centres on the Crocodile River. Aside from a plethora of shops, restaurants, and entertainment options, there’s also the prehistoric shelter of the Sudwala Caves and the Dinosaur Park depicting life-size models of these ancient animals. The Lowveld Botanical Garden is conveniently located in the city, but the bustling din is drowned out by thundering waterfalls, towering trees, and a cacophony of birdsong.

Thanks to its sub-tropical climate, Nelspruit is awash in year-round sunshine. It has two airports which service flights from Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town - and even Zambia and Mozambique. It is also located along the Maputo Corridor that links South Africa and Mozambique’s capital cities.
