The Mara Serena Safari Lodge is in a striking location atop a large hill overlooking the plains of the Masai Mara National Reserve and its namesake river snaking through it, attracting a multitude of East Africa Safari's famous wildlife along the way. The 73 en-suite rooms have a traditional Maasai village theme and they are neat, spacious, and well-appointed with magnificent uninterrupted views over the valley.
The living area at Mara Serena has a large dining area that is divided into smaller units for more intimacy; a large swimming pool, a bar and a lounge. The views from everywhere are spectacular: giraffe are dwarfed by the scale of the vista and the annual migration passes right beneath your binoculars. A range of activities fuel the wildlife fever – don't miss the balloon safari or the hippo breakfast – and the hotel's staff stand out for the friendly and obliging service.
The Mara Serena Lodge is deep in the Masai Mara National Reserve in south-west Kenya. The hotel blends into the surrounding acacia trees and, from its elevated position on top of a large hill, commands a dramatic view across the great plains of East Africa. The Mara River cuts a forested swath through the valley and is frequently the site of millions of wildebeest crossing the crocodile-infested river in bewildered haste. Outside of The Great Wildebeest Migration time, the game viewing is still excellent with a good chance of seeing the big five and all of the predators – not to mention many lesser-known plains game and fascinating nocturnals.
