Perched on the edge of a tributary of the mighty Zambezi River, Chongwe River Camp sits on the western boundary of the Lower Zambezi National Park, nestled between a grove of the Winterthorn trees - it is easily one of the most picturesque camps in the lower Zambezi valley.
The camp consists of nine open and airy Meru-style tents with en-suite bathrooms. They are all decorated in shades of ivory, brown and beige – the furniture is simple and reminiscent of a by-gone, simple safari style. For families or couples who wish to spread out a little more, there are the elegant Albida and Cassia suites that have their own private lounges and plunge pools (perfect for those hot summer days).
With Chongwe as your base camp, the bush really becomes your playground – there are numerous activities with which to keep you entertained; from fishing (strictly catch and release basis), boat rides, canoeing, day and night safaris and there is even a walking safari - which comes highly recommended to guests who enjoy a good stroll and wish to connect with nature.
Being a Chongwe Safaris property they have a policy of ‘non-intrusive enjoyment of wildlife’ and this low environmental impact policy has helped preserve this spectacular destination and all its fauna and flora – it is also why you will see very few fences. But do not fear, there are rangers and guides to ensure your safety. Chongwe also wishes to preserve local cultures and traditions, so for those who are interested in learning the rich cultural heritage of the area, community visits can be arranged.
