Busanga Bush Camp

Safari the traditional way

On the north-west side of the game filled Busanga Plains, Busanga Bush Camp, a small traditional safari style camp, lies hidden in a small tree island of giant sycamore fig trees and wild date palms.

Overlooking the Busanga Plains; an expanse of seasonal floodplains that play host to some of the most untouched and unspoilt game viewing in Africa. Busanga Bush Camp is a small and intimate camp built in a traditional safari style, with just four well appointed tents accommodating just eight guests it is an exclusive experience. Each room has large doors that open out onto the floodplains themselves, mosquito-proof gauze is used for the top half of their walls – allowing a breeze to blow through – and the bottom section and roof are made of canvas. The rooms all feature superb views over the floodplains. The en-suite bathrooms all offer shower under the stars, an incredible bush experience.

Thanks to the rising mist off the floodplains as they dry up in winter, guests can experience incredible sunrises and sunsets, with the sun a spectacular pink colour, while the floodplains and dambos teem with wildlife and birds; the Plains provide some of the best lion viewing in Africa. The main dining area and lounge are built under the shade of fantastic trees and you will end up spending any 'free' time relaxing here and enjoying the view. Enjoy scumptious food and fine service in camp, and when out on a game viewing expedition, enjoy the company of a knowledgeable guide.

The Kafue National Park is home to thousands of red lechwe, ubiquitous puku, stately roan and sable antelope, as well as the diminutive oribi and blue duiker. Defassa waterbuck, herds of Lichtenstein's hartebeest, zebra and buffalo make for a full set of antelope. This wealth of game on the plains is also a big attraction for predators, with cheetah, leopard and African wildcat often seen, wild dog, pangolin, and caracal spotted occasionally, and prides of lion up to 20 strong. One can go in search of the wildlife on 4x4 game drives, day and night. Or you could hop aboard a motorboat and explore some of the waters in search of game, or try your hand at fishing. Another option is to pull on some good shoes an undertake a bush walk in the company of a knowledgeable guide.
