Under the milkwood in Grootbos

The view from Grootbos Nature Reserve is unlike any other: ancient milkwood forests, pristine fynbos moors morphing into pristine beaches, and the Indian and Atlantic Ocean waters melting together in the distance. Grootbos spans across 2,500ha and is part of the Cape Floral Kingdom. This incredibly diverse and rich area near the southern tip of Africa makes for a picturesque getaway that’s immersed in nature.

Visitors to Grootbos can indulge in a wide array of activities including guided walks, whale-watching tours, shark-cage diving, 4x4 flower safaris, cave tours, horse-riding, bird-watching, and quad-biking. Bon vivants may head to one of the three nearby wine routes while adrenaline junkies can take to the skies on a scenic flight over the ocean looking for whales, soaring across Cape Point, or getting a bird’s-eye view of Table Mountain.

The elusive Cape leopard roams the area as does grysbok, bushbuck and an array of birdlife. The Big 5 of the big blue can also be seen here: sharks, whales, dolphins, penguins, and seals, call the surrounding waters home. With three luxurious accommodation types, a world-class spa, and two restaurants, you can consider your stay at Grootbos sorted. And the best part? It’s only a two-hour drive from Cape Town!
