Located in sheltered, wind-free Bantry Bay, just two minutes from the beachfront and ten minutes away from the city centre, guests can enjoy breathtaking views of the ocean from every room. Compass House offers a warm and relaxed atmosphere, with a fusion of interior design styles, blending the best of Mediterranean, Asian and African flavours and has wooden floors throughout.
If you book in to the suite at Compass House for your honeymoon, methinks you might gather up enough brownie points to last your whole marriage! A mahogany bed gazes out across your private balcony, with its circular Jacuzzi, and on to Bantry Bay beyond. Or perhaps you’d prefer the view of Lion’s head from the bath? Olivier was trying out a new coffee-machine when I arrived.
They were trying to talk nozzles with me, but I was in another world, mesmerised first by the 20-metre infinity pool leading my incredulous eyes out to the ocean beyond; and then by all the miracles of modern technology that I so enjoyed fiddling with. The Star Wars-like light switches, for example. And the state-of-the-art sound system that disseminates a choice of thousands of songs through discreet ceiling speakers in the bedrooms, bathrooms and communal areas.
On the inside, original Sir Herbert Baker stonework peaks through the soft, natural, stone and earth hues. Outside, meanwhile, umbrellas, a pool bar, lavender and modern, wooden, garden furniture accessorise billiard-table-smooth lawns and the deck, on to which rays of sunlight pour through vine-clad awnings. Decadent luxury awaits you at Compass House, but the honesty bar at the pool is symptomatic of the relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere - help yourself rather than be fussed over by obtrusive staff.
