Mumbo Island

Lake Malawi National Park

Mumbo Island is located within a private concession in the Lake Malawi National Park, a World Heritage Site and protected marine reserve. The island has never been inhabited, so guests really are guaranteed an exclusive experience in an unspoilt setting. Apart from lazing about in hammocks and wallowing in the warm waters, guests can enjoy a range of non-motorised water sports (better for peace and quiet, as well as the environment) such as kayaking, snorkelling, scubadiving and sailing. The camp is raised on granite rocks that tumble down to the lake shore, with stunning views stretching to the horizon.

Accommodation consists of 7 tented suites hosting a maximum of 14 guests. Each tent comes with eco-friendly toilets and hot bucket showers, as well as a private viewing deck complete with hammock for whiling the days away. Freshly caught fish is served in the thatched dining area or you can wine and dine under the stars. Savour a sunset drink at the bar or relax in the chilled lounge area, as another day comes to pass on the magical Mumbo Island.

You will be hard pressed to find a more untouched sliver of paradise than Mumbo Island. It is part of a private concession in the Lake Malawi National Park, a protected freshwater marine reserve and World Heritage Site. It is renowned for its unparalleled scubadiving (the resort is PADI accredited) and superb snorkelling with over 500 species of fish, including the world's highest collection of cichlids. Kayaking, sailing and boat cruises are all on offer, and the birding is quite simply phenomenal with the African Fish Eagle ready to pounce at any moment. And you can just lounge about in your hammock spellbound by the spectacular views - and relax on your very own island!
