Kaya Mawa Lodge is a luxury establishment located on Likoma Island, a haven of peace and privacy on Lake Malawi. The island is actually within Mozambican waters but is considered a part of Malawi due to its history. The lodge is quite simply stunning, occupying a private beach within a rocky cove. Gnarled baobabs and mango trees rise out of the earth, and the lodge is built into the granite outcrops that fall down to the water. There is a bar and dining room with superb views over the lake, as well as a swimming pool should you tire of the freshwater version.
Accommodation consists of 10 thatched premium chalets and 2 family chalets, each with private terraces that face out onto the lake, ideal for wining and dining with your loved one. The chalets have en-suite bathrooms with sunken bathtubs and the family suites have 2 bedrooms with an interconnecting bathroom and lounge. The honeymoon suite is nothing short of spectacular, nestled on its own island, and linked to the lodge by a a wooden bridge suspended over the lake. The lodge has a water sports centre and organises an array of water and land-based activities, should you feel the need to leave your sun lounger!
When you arrive at Kaya Mawa, you will understand why Conde Nast called it "one of the planet's 10 most romantic destinations". The setting is breathtaking, upon a secluded and serene island, facing out onto a beautiful beach and with the crystal clear waters of Lake Malawi on your doorstep. The chalets are all intimate with superb views and private terraces, and the honeymoon suite would befit any marriage - what could be more romantic than your own island? And if you desire some exercise, you can go snorkelling and scubadiving, sail a boat or kayak across the lake, take a sunset cruise on a traditional dhow and visit one of the many community projects that Kaya Mawa supports. And toast another day on this island paradise with your loved one.
