Here on Lamu Island at the end of a wide white sandy beach where the only footprints could well be your own, sits Kipungani Explorer. In a protected bay and further protected by mangrove swamps, Kipungani is truly a remote, romantic and relaxing Indian Ocean hideaway.
There are 14 simple grass and thatch cottages, don't judge a book by its cover though, because inside they are all 'desert island luxury' with giant king-size beds and furniture all handmade from local mangrove and palm woods. Each banda has an ocean-facing veranda with local funzi sofas and chairs piled high with colourful cushions.
There are a wide variety of activities to engage in at Kipungani. From swimming with dolphins, snorkeling or diving the reefs off Kinyika Rock and Manda Toto, windsurfing, deep sea or shore game fishing, sailing aboard a traditional dhow and visits to Lamu’s historic mosques, markets and museum.
