The park is South Africa’s oldest natural World Heritage Site and considered the third-largest park in the country, incorporating several smaller reserves and a variety of ecosystems. Highlights include an array of birdlife and calving humpback whales close to shore between June and November, a time when loggerhead and leatherback turtles also arrive to lay their eggs at what is the last significant breeding site for these species.
