Kosi Forest Lodge is tucked away in a remote corner of KwaZulu-Natal’s iSimangaliso Wetland Park – South Africa’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of our last truly wild coastal regions. Set beneath a canopy of ancient milkwood and natal fig trees, this off-the-grid lodge offers a peaceful, low-impact retreat for those wanting to unplug and reconnect with nature. With mornings beginning in birdsong and evenings unfolding beneath a sky full of stars, Kosi Forest Lodge is ideal for honeymooners, families and adventurers in search of a quiet escape off the beaten path.
Explore the interconnected lakes and channels of the Kosi lake system by canoe, walk among towering Raphia palms or take a boat trip to explore the area’s unique ecology and cultural heritage. Snorkel at Kosi Mouth’s rare estuarine reef, go for a swim as hippos wallow nearby, or visit during turtle season to witness loggerheads and leatherbacks nesting on the remote beaches. Doing nothing at all is just as rewarding – unwind on a hammock or lounger overlooking the winding waterways or simply soak up the stillness. For honeymooners, thoughtful romantic touches include complimentary sparkling wine, private dinners and outdoor baths beneath the forest canopy.
Raised forest rooms combine canvas, thatch, and wood, each with a private deck and a completely open-air bathroom framed by reed screens and soft white sand. Most meals are served al fresco under the trees or beside the fire in the open-air boma. The lodge also offers a swimming pool overlooking Lake Shengeza, a bird hide, a bar and shaded forest walking paths. The two-bedroom family rooms are perfect for everyone travelling with little ones.
