Deteema Springs sits within a small concession in northern Hwange National Park, overlooking a series of permanent water springs that draw in wildlife throughout the day. From its position on a low rocky rise, the view opens out across the springs below, where elephants, buffalo and plains game arrive steadily to drink. The setting feels simple and grounded, with rock, bush and water shaping the experience and very little separating you from what’s happening beyond camp.
Days here focus on being present in the landscape. Guided walks are a highlight, giving you time to follow tracks, read the terrain and understand how wildlife moves through this part of Hwange. Game drives explore the surrounding area, but often the most absorbing moments happen without going far at all. From the main deck, you can watch the springs draw a constant flow of animals, each arrival shifting the scene in small, unscripted ways.
You stay in canvas tents set along the contour of the rise, each one angled towards the springs below. Raised decks extend the living space outward, giving you a private place to sit and watch the activity below. Inside, the design leans towards a pared-back safari style, with en-suite bathrooms, comfortable bedding and considered finishes. The approach is deliberately low impact, using solar energy and light structures that keep the camp closely tied to its surroundings. Deteema Springs welcomes children from six years and older, unless the camp is booked on an exclusive-use basis.
