Challenge4aCause 2012

The Skeleton Coast Epic!

The principle of Challenge4aCause is simple – undertake a personal and physical challenge of a lifetime in spectacular surroundings and raise funds and awareness for community and conservation projects.

In July 2012, 10 brave riders will set off for Namibia's Skeleton Coast to take on an epic cycling event the like of which has never been done before. Are you tough enough to take on the Ultimate Challenge?!

13 – 21 July 2012
10 Elite Riders

Day 1:  Drive to Palmwag
Day 2:  Cycle to Sesfontein. 120km big first day but all on gravel road except last 20 km. Sleep out close to the Hoanib river.
Day 3: From here we enter the concession area at the northern border and start cycling. Sleep in riverbed close to Hunkab spring.
Day 4:  Further south over some endless gravel plains to another lifeline, Kai-Ais spring where we camp.
Day 5:  Some rugged terrain along various riverbeds exploring the area and finishing the day at Palmwag for a bit of luxury.
Day 6:  Cycle towards Wereldsend and then west towards the border of the skeleton coast park. Sleep in a riverbed.
Day 7:  Further west and south in the concession area to finish at Werelds End.
Day 8:  From Werelds End to Damaraland Camp 75 km with a great finish venue.
Day 9: Transfer back to WHK and fly out late afternoon.

In 2012 we are aiming to raise R800,000 for the three causes that we support. The Save the Rhino Trust will use the funds for its anti poaching units that are protecting the largest free ranging Black Rhino population in the wild. The Wildlife ACT Fund will use the funds to develop and implement new anti poaching technologies for rhinos and monitor priority species on the five reserves that they have conservation projects on. The Good Work Foundation will use the funds to promote the education of disadvantaged individuals in rural areas.
