Your own bit of wilderness in Loliondo

Sitting snugly between the Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the Loliondo Game Controlled Area is home to a 10,000-hectare wildlife concession teeming with game. Considered an integral part of the Greater Serengeti Ecosystem, Loliondo’s borders are shared with Maasai pastoralists who graze their cattle alongside the wildlife of the surrounding bush.

Despite Loliondo only being a third of the size of the Serengeti National Park, it is a magnificent place from which to observe the game-rich area. Between September and December, members of the Great Migration pass through the park providing food for the resident leopards, cheetahs, and lions whose territories are within the boundary of Loliondo. Also found in the concession are herds of elephant and buffalo and superb bird-of-prey sightings, such as the Verreaux’s eagle and pygmy falcon.

The Loliondo concession offers a more relaxed safari experience in comparison to the sometimes stringent rules observed in national parks. Guests are able to trek on foot with guides through the veld, where they are taught about medicinal plants, tracking and insects, as well as exploring the area on a night drive where all sorts of different fauna come out to play.
