Coffee Bay

The untouched and mysterious Coffee Bay

Coffee Bay on the Wild Coast of The Eastern Cape is a place of awe-inspiring beauty, where cerulean waves clash with rocky outcrops leading up to steep hills covered in carpets of green and dotted with traditional huts. Thanks to this beautiful rural Transkei setting, the town is awash in an unspoilt and mysterious aura which extends to the deserted beaches and private coves gracing the town’s shores.

The most enigmatic place of all in Coffee Bay is the Hole in the Wall: a giant offshore stack of rock through which a massive hole gapes. The brave can attempt to make their way through the hole, but most are content to bask in its mystery. Apart from their beauty, the rolling green hills offer spectacular hiking opportunities with striking views of the waves below. The waters of the Indian Ocean are rich with activities such as surfing and spear fishing.

The atmosphere of Coffee Bay is utterly relaxed and extends to the hotels, lodges, and backpackers that accommodate its visitors. The town is one of the only coastal resorts in the area reachable by tar road from the N2, making it relatively easy to reach despite its 300km distance from the city of East London.
