Bela-Bela (Warmbaths)

Bela-Bela’s immense mineral hot springs

There are not many better names than Bela-Bela – meaning ‘the pot that boils’ in Tswana – for this small town in the Limpopo Province. Neither for that matter are there much better than its previous name Warmbaths, thanks to the immense mineral hot springs that bubble out of the earth around the town. Bathing in the remedial waters of a hot spring is the ideal way to rest before or after a journey, making Bela-Bela the ideal base from which to explore the southern Waterberg area.

Appropriately for a town named after its hot springs and their curative waters, Bela-Bela hosts a range of wellness centres and spas where visitors can cure their ailments. The town is also packed with family-friendly resorts featuring extravagant waterslides and playparks. In the surrounding Waterberg countryside, well-stocked nature reserves offer up their lands for exploration.

The town receives an average of 286 sunny days a year and enjoys a pleasantly mild climate in the winter, making the town an all-year-round destination. Bela-Bela features accommodation to suit its visitors’ every need, from self-catering chalets to luxury five-star lodges. The town is also conveniently positioned only 2hrs outside Gauteng and in proximity to the natural wonders of the Waterberg.
