Oribi Gorge

Soar over the dramatic Oribi Gorge

The scenery does not come more dramatic and awe-inspiring than the forest-covered hills and colossal sandstone cliffs of Kwazulu Natal’s Oribi Gorge.  Adrenaline junkies will delight in the world’s highest gorge swing, soaring above the terrain of forests, rivers, and rapids housing an assortment of bird species and wildlife.

Besides on the Wild Swing – which drops the brave off the edge of a 165m-high waterfall into the cavernous depths of the gorge below – visitors can also get their blood pumping by being lowered down one of the world’s premier natural commercial abseils. Spectacular hiking trails weave through forests speckled with small buck, beneath trees swarming with over 250 species of birds, and along the dramatic cliff edge.

The 24km-long gorge was carved out by the mighty Umzimkulu River which flows along the forest floor and offers up its waters for adrenaline-charged whitewater rafting. Oribi Gorge is blessed with a tropical climate making it an all-year-round destination. The bottom of the gorge forms the Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve which ensures the protection of its pristine forest. The gorge is also conveniently located less than a 2-hour drive from Durban.
