Roam in the footsteps of the Magnificent 7

Home to two lodges in the renowned Timbavati Game Reserve, Kambaku (meaning ‘solitary bull elephant) is named after one of the Magnificent 7 elephants that traversed the Kruger for a large part of the twentieth century and whose tusks were said to weigh over 50 kilograms each.

Along with its remarkable white lion population, the Big 5 population (with elephant and leopard frequently being spotted) call Timbavati home. Game drives and bush walks will bring visitors close to other predators like the cheetah, wild dog, and hyena that perpetually stalk the abundant number of plains game found in the area. Bird-watcher will marvel at the reserve’s impressive birdlife, with around 350 different bird species having been recorded here.

Thunderous summer downpours will bring respite from humid days and will transform the landscape into a verdant oasis. The dry, temperate winters with its plunging night-time temperatures will reveal the wildlife wandering amid the dry and scarce vegetation. Kambaku can be reached by road from Johannesburg in less than 7 hours while the Eastgate Airport is 30 kilometres from the reserve. Travellers can also make use of Timbavati’s own airstrip found a scenic and game-rich drive away from Kambaku.
