Think classical warmth and comfort - parquet flooring and the unmistakable scent of thatch. The film ‘A river runs through it’ came instantly to mind at Walkersons Hotel & Spa where each room is individually decorated with lake views and sumptuous fire places. And look out for the Highland suite – five rooms including a private study, separate lounge, spacious bathroom, large bedroom and adjoining dressing-room.
Then there’s the Stable suite situated over the elegant Stable Complex, 200 metres or so from the main lodge, with beautiful views down the valley into the majestic lowveld.
Excellent cuisine and handpicked wines are a specialty of the house where friendly and attentive staff compliment the fine dining. Indulge in the spa or gentle country pursuits, from beautiful forest and river walks to a spot of fly fishing for rainbow trout on several kilometers of private river or on one of the many lakes. A full selection of fly-fishing tackle and accessories are available to guests at a nominal charge. To work off some of the delicious cuisine, I took on a breathtaking walk to the mountain top some 250 meters above. Rich with fauna and flora, I loved every step!
