The Panorama Route’s adrenaline capital

Mpumalanga’s Graskop has come a long way since its humble beginnings as a mining town. Today, it is a popular tourist destination (and home to a burgeoning timber industry) for those exploring the Panorama Route. Located 1,400 metres above sea-level on the edge of the Drakensberg Escarpment, Graskop is renowned for its multitude of daredevil outdoor-adventure activities and stunning vistas.

The iconic rocky outcrop of the Pinnacle and the 700-metre drop into a forested ravine leading into the lowveld seen from God’s Window are just a little way out of town. This part of the world is prone to high rainfall and mist, turning viewpoints into ethereal cloudy realms. The dull roar of nearby waterfalls such as Berlin and Lisbon are awe-inspiring while a picnic at the bottom of the Mac Mac Falls is a delightful way to spend an afternoon.

Thrill-seekers and outdoorsy types will fall in love with the exciting activities available in and around Graskop. Hold on tight to the world’s highest gorge swing, soar through the air in a hot-air balloon or Scenic Helicopter Flights to get the best views of surrounding towns and the Blyde River Canyon, or abseil down cliff-faces found in the area. Other pastimes include mountain-biking, quad-biking, river-rafting, gold-panning, and fly-fishing.
