Rustic camps and luxury lodges await

With bragging rights to being one of the largest privately owned reserves in South Africa and spanning across 60,000ha, one would think that alone would warrant a visit to Klaserie Game Reserve, right? Wrong. Klaserie is home to the Big 5, endangered African wild dog, southern ground hornbill, and white-backed vulture. Plus: They are fiercely focused on nature conservation and low-impact tourism.

Since its inception in 1969, Klaserie has had a keen eye focused on keeping commercial and human impact in the reserve to a minimum. As a result, it is one of the most unspoilt reserves in the area. Limited visitor numbers allow for guests to spend more time at game-viewing spots observing the wildlife. Visitors will spot hordes of plains game on the open veld while the Klaserie River is popular with hippo pods, playful elephants, and buffalo and rhino herds.

The handful of camps and lodges in Klaserie offer accommodation options for those on a budget to those who want to experience safari luxury on their holiday. While game drives are the order of the day at most reserves, Klaserie is a superb environment for guests to get the lay of the land through a bush walk with a guide.
