Stretch your legs in Mariental

Mariental is a small village on the fringes of the Kalahari Desert whose roots are firmly entrenched in farming and agriculture. It is also an area of significant importance to the local Nama people. With the Fish River ambling past the town and its location between two of Namibia’s most popular tourist destinations, Mariental welcomes passers-by with open arms and is the perfect place to overnight, refuel and relax before continuing on your journey.

There are a number of accommodation options in town for those just passing through, but visitors may be tempted to stay a while and explore the lodges on Mariental’s outskirts. Game-viewing has become increasingly popular in the area while the surrounding wilderness’ untouched appeal entices those in need of good old ‘time out’ with nature. Keep a keen eye on the landscape – you never know when the resident cheetah, rhino or giraffe (among others) may make an appearance.

Mariental is an obvious place for travellers to rest, refuel and stock up on supplies while travelling through Namibia due to its convenient location halfway between Keetmanshoop and Windhoek. Visitors can overnight in Mariental or extend their stay and enjoy one of the surrounding reserve’s comfortable and welcoming lodges.
