Impalila Island

Spot four countries in one day from Impalili Island

Hailed as the only place in the world where four countries (namely Namibia,Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana) share a border, Impalila Island lies a short distance from the confluence of the mighty Chobe and Zambezi rivers. Nestled in the north-eastern tip of Namibia, visitors to the island can stand before a 2 000 year-old baobab, cast a few lines in the surrounding waters or enjoy a game-drive.

Made up of a maze of waterways, floodplains and bushveld, Impalila Island is home to a myriad of fauna and flora. Game viewing is done primarily by boat and into the late afternoons when the surrounding banks are populated by congregating wildlife. Visitors will have a chance to spot lion and large herds of buffalo and elephant alongside wallowing hippo pods. Birdwatchers will be thrilled to learn that over 450 species are found in this area too.

Guided walks in the company of knowledgeable and experienced guides will give visitors fascinating insight into the traditional medicinal uses of plants and trees in the area. Guests can fish from the floating base of a Mokoro or motor boat. The island is easily reached by flying into Kasane Airport on the Botswana side and going through customs to the Namibian side.
