Chobe River

The lifeblood of a phenomenal African wilderness

The Chobe River forms the boundary between Namibia and the Chobe National Park in neighbouring Botswana. The vast flood plains dotted with lush riverine woodlands and the expansive savannahs further out promise excellent game-viewing and a prolific safari experience via river and land.

The exciting sights and sounds of the Chobe River are best explored from its perennial waterways on a relaxing water-based safari. Visitors can hope to spot playful elephants, water-loving antelope such as the puku and red lechwe and a host of other game such as giraffe, zebra, buffalo and hippo. The river’s native predators, such as the lion, cheetah, hyena and wild dog, are never too far behind from their next possible meal. Birdwatchers will be enthralled at the vast array of birdlife that can be found along the Chobe’s banks.

There are a number of accommodation options along the Chobe River. Chobe Savannah Lodge, on an island in the river, is an excellent location for travellers looking for an exclusive Chobe River experience. On the south side of Impalila Island, Ichingo Lodge provides an exceptional safari experience in the very heart of the Chobe.
