A stroke of wild and varied terrain

Southern Madagascar is a cinematic sweep of diverse and wild terrain unlike any other place on earth. Its coastline is brushed with deserted beaches and off-shore coral reefs while further inland visitors will find the sweeping savannahs and sandstone ridges of Isalo National Park, and towns with tree-lined streets and white-washed French-colonial buildings.

Traverse a surreal and unforgettable landscape of weather-beaten sandstone before making your way into the lush and deep valleys of the Isalo National Park in search of cool pools, cascading waterfalls, and ring-tailed lemurs. The resort town of Ifaty presents its visitors with white sand beaches and crystal clear waters overflowing with tropical fish and is easily made into a daytrip. Fort Dauphin is a magical port town nestled across a peninsula and is full of picturesque hiking and nature trails, and dotted with quaint markets and restaurants.

Much of Southern Madagascar is wild and rugged, yet thanks to a well-maintained road that winds its way from Antananarivo and Toliara, visitors will find this part of the island easy to explore. Toliara is seen as Southern Madagascar’s coastal capital and is a lively place which stands under the cool shelter of the trees which line its streets.
